Ho Relative Charged with Corruption

Cheyenne Chan, sister-in-law of Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho and former director and shareholder of three companies, has been charged with corruption along with a former high-ranking Hong Kong lawmaker.

The sister-in-law of Macau casino legend Stanley Ho has been charged with corruption in a case that also implicated Wilson Fung, former deputy secretary for Economic Development and Labor in Macau.

Cheyenne Chan is the former director and shareholder of three companies: Helicopters Hong Kong Ltd., Hong Kong Express Airways Ltd. and Heli Express Ltd. She and Fung will face charges by the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC), which investigated graft complaints and an alleged HKD510,000 (US$65,000), reported the Macau Daily Times.

According to an ICAC press release, Fung will face two charges including accepting an advantage as a public servant and misconduct in public office. Chan faces a charge of offering an advantage to a public servant.

The bureau alleges that Fung, in his role as deputy secretary, took the bribe from Chan “as a reward for being or remaining favorably disposed to her and/or the three companies controlled by her or related to her.” According to the ICAC investigation, the money was then used by Fung as an initial deposit for the purchase of an apartment. Fung was then suspended from his post as executive director of corporate development at the Airport Authority.
