Dutch-based Holland Casino has experienced a dramatic rise in gross revenue of €753.8 million (£667.3 million/$832.2 million) for 2022, a shocking 147.7 percent over the previous year.
Holland Casino operates 14 casinos, all of which were closed for 25 days in 2022 due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, the company’s casino revenues rose, Focus Gaming News reported.
Holland Casino CEO Petra de Ruiter told reporters that the market was increasingly competitive.
“In 2022, in addition to a tail of coronavirus measures, external factors again had a major impact on Holland Casino,” she said. “This is partly due to the opening of the market for online games of chance, which has drastically changed the competitive playing field.”
Holland Games responded quickly to the rising demand for reigning in advertising in online gaming. “Holland Casino understands this sentiment and responded quickly. The line of restraint with advertising for (online) games of chance will be continued, regardless of upcoming additional regulations in this area. This fits in with the exemplary role that Holland Casino wants to continue to play,” she said.
The government of the Netherlands recently announced that a gambling advertising ban will go into effect July 1. The idea is to protect vulnerable groups.
