Horseshoe Baltimore Ahead of Schedule

A 24/7 construction schedule and brisk job recruitment efforts have officials of the Horseshoe Baltimore project predicting the casino will open early.

Horseshoe Baltimore, originally slated to open next to the Baltimore Ravens’ M&T Bank Stadium in the fall, is now predicted to open during August.  According to General Manager Chad Barnhill, the 24/7 construction schedule, combined with an aggressive campaign to fill an estimated 1,900 jobs, are leading to an early opening.

“It’s a feverish pace down at the construction site right now,” Barnhill told local TV station WJZ. “We’re geared up to open in the month of August. We’ll share an exact date in a couple of weeks.”

Through job fairs at various locations around Baltimore—including at least one church location—Caesars Entertainment has already filled half of the new property’s jobs with city residents. That number will increase when background checks are completed on other city applicants.

More than 31,000 people have applied for the 1,900 jobs at the new casino. The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission’s licensing agency hired an extra five employees to help process all the applications. “We’ve just been extremely thrilled with how well people have come in for these interviews and how prepared they are and how ready they are,” Barnhill told the Baltimore Business Journal. “I think that speaks a lot to the efforts that we put forth.”

“Fifty percent of those offers out to Baltimore City residents really shows the commitment that was made not only on our behalf but on behalf of the city in educating individuals on what needed to be done as it related to the jobs that we had,” he added.
