Hospital Buys Shuttered Tahoe Casino

Barton Healthcare System has purchased the defunct Lakeside Inn & Casino, closed since the early days of the pandemic. It plans to replace the casino and expand its health services in South Lake Tahoe.

Hospital Buys Shuttered Tahoe Casino

South Lake Tahoe-based Barton Healthcare System, an operator of urgent care in Nevada, May 4 purchased the shuttered Lakeside Inn & Casino for $13.3 million.

The defunct casino is adjacent to the Stateline Medical Center Barton operates. The hospital said it made the purchase, to “further its long-term goals of expanding access to medical care and widening an integrated, bi-state health system presence in the region.”

Barton said it was outgrowing its South Lake Tahoe Campus, “expanding services at Stateline not only meets our strategic growth goals but allows us to increase access to patients on the East Shore.”

The building will be demolished later this year. The expansion will require environmental remediation of the site, which will be done in partnership with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

The casino, which opened May 24, 1985, and closed last year due to Covid-19, announced April 14 that it would not be reopening. Many of its assets were auctioned on March 4-6 of this year. It had formerly been a Harvey’s Inn, a Caesars Inn and once hosted the first airport in the region, the Tahoe Sky Harbor.
