Hospital Named for Steve Wynn

A hospital in Utica, New York has been named after former casino magnate Steve Wynn, who donated $50 million to help build it.

Three years ago, the founder and former CEO of Wynn Resorts was forced to sell his interest in the global gaming company he founded. His troubles began in January 2018, when the Wall Street Journal published an investigative piece detailing accusations of sexual harassment and even rape against him, including a multi-million payment made to one of the accusers.

Wynn denied the accusations, but quickly divested himself of all Wynn assets within weeks of the story’s publication. His company bore the brunt of those accusations, and was ordered to pay multimillion-dollar fines to gaming regulators in Massachusetts and Nevada. The Wynn name has been removed from other institutions he donated to, including the “Wynn Commons” plaque at the University of Pennsylvania.
