Hospitality, Las Vegas-Style

The International School of Hospitality in Las Vegas recently held an open house to show off new classrooms and a remodeled facility.

Between the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the College of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas is considered by most to be the best city in the world when it comes to education on hospitality. For the past 10 years, there has also been a third, and more focused school in the area for hospitality education.

The International School of Hospitality is located in a 9,000 square foot complex in southern Las Vegas, and was founded by UNLV professors and industry professionals. The school recently showed off its campus during an open house, which features five classrooms, a lecture hall, student resource center and hotel operations lab among other amenities.

The school features four departments: conference and events, catering, hotel management and wedding coordination. The school has seen more than 1,000 students in its brief 10 year history, and offers courses which range from $1,650 for 12-week courses to $9,450 for full-diploma programs.

Patti Shock, an instructor at TISOH said that the specialized instruction helps set people into career paths quicker by avoiding the core classes students at a more traditional college would have to take.
