Hurricane Ida Aftermath Delays Louisiana Sports Betting

Louisiana sports betting remains a casualty of Hurricane Ida and its aftermath, with the start date moved to mid-October.

Originally the first temporary sports wagering licenses were expected to be released in mid-September. Then officials said that would happen in late September. Now, according to Louisiana Casino Association Executive Director Wade Duty, temporary sports wagering licenses will begin to be granted in mid-October, as Louisiana State Police troopers start returning to regular duties following reassignment from their gaming division posts.

Duty said several applications have been filed. He said the state’s 20 casinos and racetracks, including five in Shreveport-Bossier, are expected to be among the first to receive authorization to begin taking sports wagers because they have passed background checks. Others still are waiting to be verified through the investigative and regulatory processes.
