IGT Settles Social Gaming Lawsuit for $270 Million

International Game Technology (IGT) has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit against it for $270 million.

The lawsuit, Benson v DoubleDown Interactive LLC, was brought against IGT by customers of its former social gaming subsidiary DoubleDown Interactive Co. Ltd.

IGT sold the company for $825 million in 2017, the same year the lawsuit was brought.

The former customers alleged that the social casino games were actually illegal gambling according to the definition of the state of Washington because money changed hands when purchasing tokens.

The settlement must still be reviewed by the US Federal District Court for the Western District of Washington.
