IGT to Launch Mobile Application in Asia

IGT is reportedly in discussions with three Asian casino operators to potentially launch a new application that will allow casino customers to play slots and tables from their smartphones.

Leading gaming supplier International Game Technology Plc. is currently in discussions with three different casino operators in Asia regarding the potential launch of a new mobile application that will allow casino customers to play slots and back-bet on tables in real time via smartphones, according to comments to GGRAsia by Mark Michalko, IGT director of sales for Asia. The three reportedly include one Macau casino.

“It’s a product we believe, as a company, will have tremendous growth potential all across the world, not just in Asia and not just in Las Vegas,” he told the news service at the Macao Gaming Show.

The mobile application, called PlaySpot, has been launched on a test basis at MGM Resorts International properties in Las Vegas.

PlaySpot acts is “an electronic wallet,” geo-fenced to recognize the location of the player so it works only within a property, or even a certain area within a property. For back-betting, players can recognize action at a table and use their phones to place bets.

“It allows the operators to increase levels of play, and therefore their revenues, without having to increase their expenses,” Michalko said, adding that it is “for the next generation of players,” although it is not designed exclusively for the millennials.
