The Illinois Gaming Board recently approved plans to relocate the Hollywood Casinos in Joliet and Aurora. Owners Penn Entertainment will move the two venues from traditional riverside sites to highway locations.
In a statement, IGB Administrator said, “These approvals mark a significant step in the regulatory process to bring new gaming venues to these host communities. The IGB will work with Penn Entertainment as it moves through the regulatory process to ensure these relocated casino venues are constructed, opened and operated in an efficient, ethical and compliant manner.”
Hollywood in Joliet, now located along the Des Plaines River accessible from Route 6, will relocate to Rock Run Crossings, a new mixed-use development at Interstates 55 and 80. Hollywood Casino Aurora will move to a site along Interstate 88.
Penn Entertainment announced the casino relocation plans last October. A spokesman said construction will begin on the Joliet property later this year. City officials said Penn Entertainment was considering other locations but ultimately decided on the Rock Run Crossings development site. A 570-unit apartment complex, Regal Cinemas movie theater and more also are planned for the area.
