Since a groundbreaking ceremony held three months ago, construction has been steadily progressing on the $100 million Golden Nugget Danville Casino in Illinois.
Jimmy Wilmot, vice president of gaming at Wilmorite Management Group of Rochester, New York, said, “The biggest milestone we have upcoming is to get the building enclosed and weather-tight before winter. We are pushing as much as we possibly can to accomplish this. Like everyone building currently, there are challenges and those include what you would expect: cost increases and supply chain issues. We are addressing these issues as they arise and are still on track to open spring of 2023.”
The Golden Nugget Danville will feature a 41,500 square-foot gaming floor with 500 slot machines and 14 table games, plus a sportsbook, two restaurants and 650 surface parking spaces.
Online gaming and digital sports betting will be available through Golden Nugget Online Gaming, Inc. The project will create 300 permanent jobs, Wilmot said, adding right now the project requires 30 daily construction workers but that number will increase as more material arrives on-site.
“We are also proud that over $16 million in work has been awarded to Illinois contractors. We have been happy and impressed with the skilled laborers coming from the Danville Building Trades,” Wilmot said.
The casino has begun posting positions for senior management on Casino Careers and other hiring websites, including purchasing manager, director of finance and director of human relations, Wilmot said. Select senior management will start work in the next few months and most of the casino staff will be in place by the end of this year. Danville Area Community College will provide training programs.
Updates will be provided on Golden Nugget Danville’s website and social media pages.
Wilmot commented, “We continue to be very excited about this opportunity and grateful for the support and trust of the city of Danville. We also are grateful for the diligent and thorough back-grounding and license review of the Illinois Gaming Board.”
