Illinois Governor JM Pritzker has extended the period of remote registration for players to participate in sport betting in the state. Originally, bettors were required to physically register for sports betting accounts at the state’s casinos for one year. Pritzker originally suspended the requirement June 4, with casinos closed and major sports still on pause.
The latest extension goes until October 17.
There are five mobile sports betting apps currently live in Illinois—William Hill, BetRivers, DraftKings, FanDuel and PointsBet. Illinois residents wagered $52.5 million on sports in July, with 92 percent of those bets placed online. The extension comes as wagers heat up on Major League Baseball’s playoffs and on the NFL football season.
