Illinois Selects New Lottery Manager

The state of Illinois has chosen the Camelot Group, which runs the national lottery in Great Britain, to manage the Illinois Lottery, replacing Northstar Lottery Group.

The state of Illinois has selected the private Camelot Group to manage its lottery, replacing Northstar Lottery Group, which was the first private manager of a state lottery in the U.S. The Camelot Group manages the national lottery of the United Kingdom.

Camelot was the only company submitting a bid to take over lottery management from Northstar, a partnership of IGT and Scientific Games, which lottery officials said had failed to meet its projections, and according to a report in the Associated Press, disagreements with lottery officials.

Acting Illinois Lottery Director Greg Smith told the AP that Camelot, which has had success running lotteries around the world, have common goals to grow the player base, introduce new technology and “ensure responsiveness to public needs and concerns.”

In 2013, Pennsylvania rejected Camelot for its proposed privatization after nearly a year of negotiations.
