Danish gaming operator Danske Spil has reported a 0.8 percent year-on-year revenue increase for the first quarter of 2020. For the three months to March 31, revenues reached DKK1.23 billion (US$179.6 million), of which DKK640.4m came from the firm’s lottery arm, Danske Lotteri Spil.

The coronavirus took a piece out of its iGaming division, Danske Licens Spil, according to Focus Gaming News, and its gaming hall arm Elite Gaming also took a hit. The pandemic forced a write-down in asset values that affected the operator’s bottom line.

Revenue for Danske Licens Spil was down 0.8 percent to DKK511.3 million, attributed to the suspension of all major sporting events and a concurrent loss of betting opportunities. But Swush, Danske Spil’s daily fantasy sports brand, reported a slightly increased contribution, of DKK2.1 million.

Denmark was one of the first countries to implement a nationwide lockdown, starting in early March, FGN reported, resulting in an 18.7 percent drop in Elite Gaming’s Q1 revenues to DKK75.3 million.
