Casino profits in all three Massachusetts properties were dismal in November but worst of all was at the MGM Springfield, which recorded a record low for any month since it opened.
Gross revenue at the MGM was $10.5 million, compared to $17.5 million the month before, according to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, which releases such figures for the Bay State each month. This was lower than the July this year when the casino reopened, which wasn’t a full month of operation. A year ago November the MGM Springfield raked in $19.9 million.
The casino opened in August 2018. When it was selling itself to officials of the commission and the city of Springfield, MGM executives promised an average gross of $34.8 million from slots and gaming tables. The actual figure has been an average of $21.5 million, with the highest being $26.9 million in the first full month it operated.
The casino is operating under reduced hours, reduced food service and about two-thirds of its tables and slots off line. The hotel is closed, the spa is closed and the cinema is closed.
MGM combined with Plainridge Park Casino and Encore Boston Harbor generated about $45 million in gross revenue last month, compared to $69 million in October.
The Encore took in $11.8 million in gross gaming revenue last month, compared to $17.4 million the month before and $24.5 million in 2019.
The Plainridge slots parlor raked in a gross of $7.6 million last month, compared to $10 million in October and almost $11 million in 2019.
