Former Bureau of Indian Affairs director Kevin Washburn (l.) has been named a member of the incoming Biden administration’s transition team. He will lead 11 volunteers reviewing the Department of the Interior.

Incoming Administration to Review DOI Indian Policies

The incoming Biden administration has announced that for Bureau of Indian Affairs director Kevin Washburn has been named to the transition team to review the U.S. Department of the Interior and help review federal agencies.

He ran the BIA from 2012-2016. He also served as general counsel for the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) from 2000-2002.

Washburn is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. He will lead a team of 11 other volunteers reviewing the department, including the National Indian Gaming Commission. He will take a temporary leave from his job as dean of the University of Iowa College of Law, until after the inauguration.
