The incoming Biden administration has announced that for Bureau of Indian Affairs director Kevin Washburn has been named to the transition team to review the U.S. Department of the Interior and help review federal agencies.
He ran the BIA from 2012-2016. He also served as general counsel for the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) from 2000-2002.
Washburn is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. He will lead a team of 11 other volunteers reviewing the department, including the National Indian Gaming Commission. He will take a temporary leave from his job as dean of the University of Iowa College of Law, until after the inauguration.
