Indian Gaming Group is Proactive About Regulation

An Indian industry gaming group is crafting self-imposed regulations on skill games to avoid the multiple jurisdictions in Indian from attacking this problem with a patchwork of solutions.

The All Indian Gaming Federation (AIGF) is being proactive by developing a self-regulatory opt-in program for the growing skill gaming industry in the sub-continent.

The regulatory framework is now ready for members and other industry members to give feedback. AIGF hopes to have a centralized framework in place before the multiple states of India begin adopting their own regulations.

These plans were revealed at the Sports Betting & Gaming India conference in Goa two weeks ago. The framework includes consumer protections, safeguarding the image and reputation of the industry with the goal of preventing heavy-handed regulations that tend to spring up in the wake of abuses.

Worldwide there is a lack of uniformity about the definition of a game of skill. Technology developments are increasingly blurring the distinction between such games and games of chance, according to Susan O’Leary of Alderney eGaming, who spoke at a panel at the conference.

Members agreed on the growing need to provide player protection, something that has driven the development of this framework even though such games are generally not treated the same way as games of chance.
