Indian State in Limbo Over iGaming Bill

The Indian state of Tamil Nadu’s Governor RN Ravi has returned a bill to the assembly that would have banned online gambling and imposed regulations on online games.

The Economic Times reported that a source said Ravi “has raised a few queries. The Speaker’s office has received it.”

The governor and assembly have wrangled over the issue since October, when the assembly reacted to reports of 20 people committing suicide over online gambling losses. Since then the number of suicides has risen to 44.

Although the bill would ban online gambling and regulate online games, it also classifies some online games as “games of chance.”
