The government of Tamil Nadu, a state in India, is near finalizing its process of banning online gambling. The Legislative Assembly had passed the bill and Governor R.N. Ravi has approved it.

The Indian state of Tamil Nadu has published legislation in its government gazette that will ban online gambling. The Legislative Assembly had passed the bill and it was approved by Governor R.N. Ravi.

He really had no other option since, after he rejected the bill initially, the Assembly passed it again, requiring him to sign it.

Yogonet reports that, under the provisions of the bill, a panel to regulate online gaming will be empaneled. It will be headed by someone of at least Chief Secretary rank who has retired. Other members of the panel will consist of retired inspectors general with tech expertise.

The panel will investigate and address grievances and its decisions cannot be appealed. It can impose a sentence of up to three months and or a penalty of Rs 5000 ($60.94)
