Indiana Ferry to Rising Star Finally Opens

The Ohio River ferry connecting the Rising Star Casino in Rising Sun, Indiana with the rural community of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky opened last week after several long delays. The opened has been postponed due to weather and road paving

A trial period started last week. The 10-car MS Lucky Lady ferry boat will run every 15 minutes, seven days per week, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. Trips will cost $5 one-way and $8 round-trip; monthly passes will be available.

Its Texas-built tugboat and barge, built in Florida, were connected in Louisville. A celebration of arrival and christening of the vessel took place July 12 in Rising Sun. The dock there is located a few minutes from Rising Star Casino Resort. In Rabbit Hash, the dock is a few minutes from the Rabbit Hash General Store on Lower River Road. The docks are 2,000 feet apart.

Previously, a ferry operated between Rising Sun and Rabbit Hash from the early 1800s until 1948.
