Iowa Okays Touchscreen Lottery Machines

Iowans will be able to purchase lottery tickets on self-serve touchscreen machines, which the House approved 87-10. The machines will bring in an extra $30.5 million in lottery revenue over the next two fiscal years, for a total of $321.5 million. Players also will be able to buy Powerball tickets at the new kiosks.

The Iowa House recently approved in an 87-10 vote a measure approving self-serve touchscreen machines for purchasing lottery tickets. The machines are expected to generate an additional .5 million in revenue for the Iowa Lottery over the next two fiscal years, bringing total revenue to 1.5 million. As a result, .2 million more would be transferred to the state’s general fund, according to the Legislative Services Bureau.

State Rep. Quentin Stanerson, who managed House File 2146, said the self-serve kiosks will replace older pull-tabs and scratch-ticket vending machines ,and also allow lottery players to buy Powerball tickets.
