IPIM Takes on Macau MICE

Starting in November, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute will handle promotions for the city’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions business. IPIM will take over from Macau Economic Services.

Starting next month, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, or IPIM, will be responsible for promoting the city’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions industry, the Macau Daily Times announced. The MICE business now is managed by the Economic Services and Tourist Office (DSE).

The change is being made to consolidate resources, improve services and enhance efficiencies, the government said. Starting in January, IPIM will also be in charge of subsidizing MICE proposals, a role once handled by the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) and DSE.

IPIM Deputy President Irene Lau Kuan Va said the government will continue to financially support the development of the MICE industry.

Meanwhile, the MGTO is working on a proposed subsidy to help travel agencies attract more visitors to stay overnight. According to the Macau Daily Times, Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes says the subsidy is designed to help travel agencies provide better travel arrangements.
