Iran Dismantles U.K.-Linked Gaming Network

Iranian intelligence has demolished a gambling ring called “Nitro Bet” that is linked to the U.K., Yogonet reported March 13. It has also arrested five managers in the alleged illegal network.

The Intelligence Ministry announced March 9 that the action followed 14 months of investigation. The Ministry called it the largest such illegal gaming network in the country, and spanned many platforms.

The network included more than 35,000 accounts, 1,200 banking portals and 54 gambling and betting websites.

The Ministry called the U.K.-based elements of the network a “London-based mafia.” It claims the U.K. government did nothing to discourage what amounts to illegal activities in Iran, but did collect taxes from it.

Online gambling of any kind violates Islamic teachings.
