Ireland to Review Gaming Taxes

The Irish Ministry of Finance will review gaming industry tax rates as part of a larger ongoing review of Irish corporate taxation laws. The ministry has invited comment from the industry on the current rate structure.

Could system move to tax the punter?

The Irish Ministry of Finance is conducting a comprehensive review of corporate taxes including taxes on the gaming industry.

According to SBC News, the review done in concert with the Tax Strategy Group will focus on the provisions of the 2015 Betting Industry Amendment Act and will assess the potential impact of increased taxes on betting duty and bookmaker operations.

The ministry has invited stakeholders to weigh in on the state of the industry in Ireland and share their thoughts on online gaming; the appropriate level of betting tax and the equivalent tax on betting exchanges commissions; and the possible impact of taxing the punter rather than the bookie.
