Italian Regulator Details Ad Ban Terms

Italy’s advertising and communications regulator, Autorità per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazioni or AgCom, has barred gaming operators from communicating with their customers through a number of advertising channels.

According to iGaming Business, direct and indirect advertising, sponsorship and promotional communications are prohibited in an effort to curb underage and problem gambling. These include traditional advertising, product placement, the distribution of branded items, advertorials and influencer marketing. The advertising ban took effect on January 1. A ban on sports sponsorships will begin on July 14.
