Jacksonville Orders Internet Cafes Offering Gambling Closed

The city of Jacksonville Florida ordered 15 internet cafes to shut down partly for suspicion that the sites were offering simulated gambling games. A total of 23 businesses were notified but about six had proper certificates of use. They could still face closing.

The city of Jacksonville Florida ordered 23 internet cafes to close for not having proper licenses and allegedly offering simulated gambling games.

The cafes face fines and possible condemnation if they remained open. Six of the businesses showed they had proper licensing and others appealed, but all could still face being closed.

The city passed a law in late May to close the businesses, saying there were more than 28,000 calls for service at about 90 simulated gambling businesses from January 2013 through September 2018.
