Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel, the Long Island casino owned by Delaware North and Suffolk OTB and operating under the New York Lottery, has been approved for a major expansion.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation that authorizes a $200 million expansion of the property, opened in 2017. The bill authorizes an additional 1,000 VLTs, bringing the property’s slot total to 2,000. Additionally, a VIP lounge, sports bar, spa, a new parking garage and hotel renovations will be part of the expansion project.
In an interview with News 12 New Jersey, incoming Suffolk OTB president Phil Boyle said the project will benefit the entire region, as VLT profits go to a state education fund for public schools.
“It’s not a private company getting profits,” Boyle said. “All the money the people don’t win… goes to our schools.”
Opponents of the project have cited increased traffic congestion and harm to deer and other wildlife in the comparatively secluded area.
