Jamaica Considering Online Gambling

Jamaica’s gambling regulator the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (l.) says it is currently exploring options for regulating Internet gambling in Jamaica.

“Sales in the high billions”

The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission of Jamaica is considering the potential pluses and minuses of introducing a legal iGaming industry to the island nation, according to the Jamaica Gleaner.

In a statement, the BGLC said, “One of the fastest-growing offshoots of internet gambling globally is fantasy/virtual sports betting. It is especially popular in the United States, India and China, with recorded annual sales in the high billions.”

The industry and its revenue potential was a subject of the country’s Gaming Industry Summit last week, and the country’s Ministry of Finance and the Public Service expects to reach a formal position on the matter in the upcoming financial year, the Gleaner reported.
