Jamaica PM Supports Casino Project

Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness (l.) has called out the developer, the Development Bank of Jamaica, behind the Harmony Cove resort development, urging them to move forward to get the 5,000-room project, which will include a casino, under way. The government believes the resort has enormous potential to improve the island nation’s economy.

Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness is urging that the billion Harmony Cove Resort Project should move forward. The project, including a casino resort, would also including a multi-use complex.

“The government is very anxious that this be done,” he said. “My charge to the board is to get on with this project. We have to make some decisions on it; we have to move ahead.”

The first phase of the Harmony Cove project is scheduled to begin next year, with a 1,000 room hotel, retail shops, food and beverage. The second phase would include the casino. When completed, the project will have 5,000 hotel rooms, a casino, marine, and golf course.

The project is owned by the Development Bank of Jamaica and the National Housing Trust and will be managed by Harmonisation Ltd.

The prime minister is meeting with local bankers to promote the project, which he says will be a major driver of the local economy, especially by promoting more tourism. He called on the Development Bank to take the project seriously and move the project ahead faster.
