Jeju Dream Tower Scheduled to Open Before End of 2020

The Jeju Dream Tower – a resort featuring a foreigner-only casino located on the South Korean holiday island of Jeju – has seen its opening delayed from this month to “before the end of the year,” officials for the project said.

The revised schedule was confirmed to GGRAsia by Lawrence Teo, chief operating officer (COO) and executive vice president at the promoter firm, Lotte Tour Development Co Ltd.

Teo attributed the delay to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Covid-19 affected the sourcing of many different kinds of construction materials from all over the world. Material sourcing was very difficult during the first half of the year,” Teo told GGRAsia in an email.

The company is also still seeking regulatory approvals for the opening, he said.

Construction of the Jeju Dream Tower began in May 2016. The project includes a Grand Hyatt-branded hotel as well as a casino and other leisure facilities.

Jeju Dream Tower passed a “social impact” check by the island’s authorities in August. The check assesses the impact that the project’s gaming venue would have on the host community.
