Just 29% of Coloradans Support Sports Betting

Less than a third of Colorado voters surveyed would vote to legalize sports betting if the election were held today. Supporters of this ballot measure, which would put money into the Colorado Water Plan, see that they have their work cut out for them.

A survey conducted by BettingUSA.com indicates that 29 percent of Colorado voters say they support a measure on the November ballot that would allow the state’s three casino towns to offer sports betting. For the measure to pass it would require a majority vote.

The online survey found that 31.5 percent of voting age residents opposed the referendum. Almost 40 percent said they were undecided. The survey, conducted through Google Publisher Network, polled about 5,000 people.

Legislation authorizing the referendum was signed by Colorado Governor Jared Polis several weeks ago. BettingUSA.com Editor Wes Burns wrote, “Many potential voters are still unaware the issue will be appearing on the November ballot. We anticipate groups on both sides of the issue will be gearing up their campaigns to sway voters one way or another over the next few months.”

He said he anticipated that considerable funds may be spent in upcoming months both for and against the referendum in an attempt to shift the voters.

If the measure is approved Colorado casinos will be able to offer brick and mortar and mobile sports betting, which will be taxed at 10 percent. Most of the money will be used to help fund the Colorado Water Plan.
