KBIC Needs Construction Workers

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community recently held a job fair to fill construction jobs it anticipates for its $40 million renovation projects at Ojibwa Casino in Baraga and Ojibwa Casino Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Tribal members approved the expenditures in a referendum held last August.

Constructions jobs will need to be filled as the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community begins million in renovations at its Ojibwa Casino in Baraga and Ojibwa Casino Marquette in the Upper Peninsula region of Michigan. Tribal President Chris Swartz encouraged community members to attend a recent job fair and apply for a variety of jobs that will be available. “If you need a job come here,” Swartz said.

The tribe announced renovations at the two casinos last November after $40 million was approved last August in a referendum. The tribe will spend $6.5 million at Baraga and $33.5 million at Marquette. A groundbreaking ceremony was held last December.

In February, an additional $2 million was added to the original $40 million for infrastructure improvements to the casino, restaurant, hotel and press box.

Ojibwa Casino Marquette offers a 13,500 square foot gaming floor with 290 gaming machines and six table games. Ojibwa Casino Baraga features a 17,000 square feet of gaming area with 340 slots and eight table games.
