Michael Kelly has been named executive chairman of Asian Coast Development (Canada) Ltd. and chairman of Ho Tram Project Company Ltd., making him the top executive for both the development and operational arms of Vietnam’s Ho Tram Resorts, reports GGRAsia.
Ho Tram spokesman Matthew Underwood informed the publication that Kelly, who will be based in Vietnam, “will not only oversee the daily operations of the existing integrated casino resort at the Ho Tram Strip, but will also oversee the development of the next phases of the project.”
Kelly will assume the responsibilities formerly held by Shaun McCamley, who became president of the property in September 2014, and Stephen Shoemaker, chairman and chief executive of Asian Coast Development.
Underwood said Kelly “is effectively combining two roles and ensuring that the person taking on those roles is based in Vietnam.” Shoemaker had been commuting between North America and Vietnam, GGRAsia reported.
McCamley is no longer with Ho Tram. Shoemaker has moved to another role within Asian Coast Development.
The resort is a project of international investors including New York-based hedge fund Harbinger Capital Partners. They have spent about $700 million on the casino resort thus far. The former Grand Ho Tram Strip, designed by famed casino architect Paul Steelman, first opened in July 2013. Asian Coast Development holds a 50-year lease on the 405-acre waterfront parcel in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, some 75 miles from Ho Chi Minh City. It includes an 18-hole Greg Norman golf course called the Bluffs.
