The Kentucky Lottery Corp. recently announced strong May sales will help the lottery meet 2020 sales targets. Interim President and Chief Executive Officer Marty Gibbs said, “Through April our sales were $57 million behind budget, as the initial weeks of the pandemic were experienced. Opportunities for discretionary spend were limited and lottery products were available, which led to a significant rebound in May.”
Interim Chief Operating Officer Maggie Garrison said May sales were $132.1 million—$33.7 million and 31.9 percent higher than budgeted. “This was led by increases in our scratch-off ticket sales, which jumped 46 percent or $29.4 million more than expected to $93 million,” she said. June sales are on track to deliver another strong month, Garrison noted.
Garrison said daily Pick 3 sales exceeded the budget by $4.7 million or 36.4 percent, and the Pick 4 draw game posted $1.5 million or 38.6 percent more than budgeted.
Also, total iLottery sales came in higher than May 2019 and exceeded April 2020 by 25 percent, she said.
Gibbs said in product advertising and Keno monitors in retailers statewide recently were reinstated after having been suspended in March.
The lottery board also approved a 2-month bridge operating budget for July and August, plus rules and regulations for six scratch-off tickets and new or amended rules for 19 instant play games.
