Kenya Reverses Gaming-Ad Ban

Kenya’s High Court has rejected a proposed ban on gambling ads, calling it unconstitutional. The ban would have covered outdoor, electronic and online advertising.

Justice John Mativo of Kenya’s High Court has rejected a proposed ban on gambling ads that would have applied to outdoor, electronic and online advertising. Mativo ruled that the original directive, issued last week by the Betting Control and Licensing Board, was unconstitutional. The BCLB also requested final approval on all forms of betting ads.

The decision followed a case filed by the Outdoor Advertising Association of Kenya, reported the Daily Nation. “Upon applying the legal principles, the facts and circumstances of this case, I find that the impugned decision was adopted in a manner that was procedurally unfair,” Mativo said.
