Kenya Watchdog Group Warns Over Rise in Gaming Ads

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has warned against the rise of gambling advertisements and promotions, iGB reported May 23.

MCK CEO and Secretary David Omwoyo Omwoyo told media groups that gaming ads are limited to licensed operators approved by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).

The MCK regulates media and monitors journalists and media write fair and unbiased stories. Kenya, of course, has no First Amendment that protects the press from government oversight.

Omwoyo added, “This advisory is issued in public interest to protect investors and to ensure the highest standards of media practice in relation to advertisement of gaming activities on media platforms.”
