Korean Casinos Close in Cautionary Measure

South Korean gaming operator Paradise Co. closes its Seoul casino, Paradise Walkerhill, last Tuesday for seven days as the country faces a new wave of coronavirus cases.

In a filing to the Korea Stock Exchange, Paradise Co. announced the suspension, and the tentative reopening of the gaming hall on December 22. Its peer in the market, Grand Korea Leisure, had already shut down its casinos at Gangnam COEX, Gangbuk Millenium Seoul Hilton and Busan Lotte Hotel, all of which serve foreigners only, and locals casino Kangwon Land.

South Korea is now operating under “Level 2.5” safety measures in the greater Seoul area, in which gatherings of fewer than 50 people are still allowed, local news agency Yonhap reported. Under Level 3 social distancing measures, any gatherings of 10 or more people would be banned, according to GGRAsia. Companies would also be asked to require that non-essential employees work from home.
