In 2020, gaming turnover in South Korean casinos decreased by 64.5 percent from the prior year, according to data from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Visitation dropped 71.3 percent at foreigner-only venues and Kangwon Land, the only casino complex in the country that permits locals.

According to GGRAsia, turnover came to KRW1.04 trillion (US$926.53 million), compared to KRW2.93 trillion in 2019. The country’s 16 foreigner-only casinos recorded an aggregate 58.8 percent decline, to KRW597.8 billion, from KRW1.45 trillion in 2019, according to the data.

Casino visits totaled 1.7 million in 2020, down from 6.1 million visits the year before. In 2020, all South Korean casinos faced capacity limits and closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
