Korean Regulators Close Casino for One Month

Philippines-based Bloomberry Resorts Corp. has been slapped with a one-month suspension of operations at its Jeju Sun property in South Korea. The punishment was meted out over tax problems under the previous owner.

Company will use the time to renovate

The gaming hall at Jeju Sun Hotel & Casino, a resort on South Korea’s Jeju Island, has been ordered to close for one month effective November 14 on order from the island’s gambling regulator, known as the CRD.

According to Morningstar.com, the decision followed an investigation into tax discrepancies under the previous owners, when the casino was called LVegas Casino. Jeju Sun is now majority-owned by Bloomberry Resorts Corp., which controls the resort through its South Korean subsidiary, Solaire Korea Co. Ltd., according to the Asia Gaming Brief.

The hotel will remain open during the suspension, Bloomberry said. And the time will be well-spent, according to a filing by the company. “Jeju Sun will use this one month period of suspension to pursue and complete its renovation and upgrade of its gaming floors and facilities, and to expand its ballroom,” the filing said.

The suspension end December 15, in time for the winter holidays peak season.
