South Koreans top the list of international visitors to Macau, according to figures from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
According to Inside Asian Gaming, the Chinese special administrative region (SAR) had recorded 192,095 South Korea arrivals as of May 21—almost on par with total arrivals last year, and 52 percent of arrivals in 2019.
MGTO officials will continue to court this demographic through marketing campaigns directed at South Koreans and by collaborating with South Korean airlines to resume international routes. Direct flights from Seoul and Busan to Macau have already returned.
The tourism agency is also working to strengthen cooperation with their peers in South Korea.
“To facilitate new collaborations, Korean industry delegates will be familiarized with Macau’s latest tourism and MICE trends” as their Macau counterparts “forge partnerships and uncover market potential together for a mutual rise in visitor arrivals,” the MGTO stated.
