Los Angeles card clubs were allowed to reopen by California Governor Gavin Newsom on January 26. They reopened, but with new strict guidelines, including only allowing outdoor play.
Card clubs have been shut down for two months, since the governor issued his second stay-at-home orders of the pandemic. His lifting of restrictions
included Los Angeles County, which had the most Covid cases of any county in the Golden State—it also has the largest population.
Besides operating outside, the card clubs may only operate at 50 percent capacity. Los Angeles has some of the largest card rooms in the world, such as the Commerce Casino, with 200 poker tables, Gardens Casino and Bicycle Casino, which each have more than 180 tables.
