Labor Federation Puts Morongo on No-Patronize List

Morongo Casino, Resort and Spa in California’s Coachella Valley has been put on a “do not patronize” list by the California Labor Federation.

The action comes after the Morongo Band, following 16 months of negotiations, rejected a contact with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 47. The federation claims the tribe negotiated in bad faith “to circumvent the collective bargaining process.”

The tribe claims that it negotiated in good faith. The contract was rejected by the workers and the 875 members of the tribe.

The “do not patronize” list informs “union members and the public of companies that do not respect workers’ basic rights,” according to the federation.

An attorney for the tribe noted that last year employees were given an across-the-board 11 percent increase in wages.
