The Chemehuevi tribe of California is in the midst of building a second casino on Lake Havasu that it expects will be completed by April of 2018. When completed, the million casino will replace the existing facility, the Havasu Landing Resort and Casino, which is located a quarter mile away.
The casino will have 25,000 square feet of gaming floor with 320 slot machines and six gaming tables. The design allows more games to be added later. The four-story hotel will have a restaurant and a marina.
Tribal Planner Bill Cox told the News Herald: “We have the marina just about done. We’re starting to do the site work; you can probably start to see actual buildings go up sometime in April or May.”
Before construction went forward the tribe had to obtain permits from the Army Corps of Engineers and San Bernardino County.
“The project is probably going to be a $35 million to $40 million project,” said Cox. “You don’t want to spend that money unless you’re doing it the right way so yeah we took some time.”
