Las Vegas Sands Sues 35 Asian Websites for Trademark Infringement

The Las Vegas Sands Corp. has started legal proceedings against 35 website domains in a Nevada federal court charging that the Asian sites are using the Sands trademark to lure in online gamblers. The suit claims the sites are trying to link themselves to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore.

If you see an Asian online gambling site that shows a skyline view of Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore, don’t assume the site is connected to the Sands brand.

Las Vegas Sands has filed trademark infringement lawsuits against 35 Asian websites in Nevada federal court saying the sites are trading off the Sands brand.  The suit claims that the unaffiliated sites clearly show “a skyline view of Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore.”

The suit calls the 35 sites “a network of Chinese language internet websites” that are also available to U.S. gamblers. The site use domain providers such as GoDaddy.com and Name.com to protect their actual identity, but are believed to funnel players into two online casinos.

The lawsuit seeks to prevent the sites from the continued use of Sands’ trademark in addition to compensation for court costs, fees and damages.
