Five New Ordinances in Brazil as Legal Market Moves Closer
With the expected January 1, 2025 launch date of Brazil’s regulated sports betting and iGaming market rapidly approaching, five more ordinances outlining regulation have been published this week in Brazil’s Official Gazette of the Union.
The first of the five was the much-anticipated Normative Ordinance No. 1,207, which set out technical requirements for online games and live games studios. Notably, the controversial Fortune Tiger game will be allowed.
The other four ordinances related to industry contributions to the state, the monitoring and inspection of gambling activities, responsible gaming guidelines and the sanctioning regime for those who don’t adhere to regulations.
Brazilian Army Release Booklet to Counter Gambling Addictions
The Brazilian army has created a booklet with the intention of protecting soldiers against the risks of gambling addiction.
As reported by Zona de Azar Brazil, concerns over gambling addictions have grown in the Brazilian army in recent times, especially in regards to consequences such as suicide and money-related crimes.
The booklet has been discussed in lectures with over 600 military organizations and comes after the Brazilian Air Force and Navy also both launched initiatives related to gambling.
Caesars’ Big Brazil and Sportingbet Submit Brazil License Applications
Caesars Sportsbook’s Big Brazil and Sportingbet have both applied for licenses to operate in Brazil, taking the total number of applications to five.
Sportingbet was the fourth operator to apply, joining Betano, Superbet and Rei do Pitaco in submitting an application. Caesars Sportsbook’s licensee Big Brazil then made its request as the 20 August deadline for the initial 90-day window of preference gets closer.
Operators who submit their applications by that deadline will guarantee their applications will be processed by 1 January 2025, the expected launch date of the legal market.
Rush Street Interactive Grows LatAm Influence with Peru Launch
Rush Street Interactive announced the launch of its RushBet brand in Peru as part of its “strategic advancement” into Latin America.
RSI is already live in Mexico and Colombia and has now joined a newly regulated market in Peru with a population of over 30 million people.
RSI chief executive officer Richard Schwartz believes the Peru launch will be a “key component” of the company’s ambitions in an exciting but competitive LatAm market.
