The government of Latvia lifted its ban on land-based gambling on June 9. Casinos and other retail gaming establishments were shut down March 22 due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Online gaming, suspended on April 6, was permitted to resume the same day.
Latvia’s Lotteries and Gambling Supervisory Authority, which regulates gaming in the country, had taken some heat for banning online gaming during the industry shutdown.
According to iGamingBusiness.com, industry stakeholders including Enlabs said the move could lead to an increase in illegal iGaming during. Enlabs went on to mount a legal challenge against the bill, which has not yet been heard—and which may be a moot point now that the ban has been lifted.
“Latvia is back,” Enlabs President and CEO George Ustinov said. “Now we can continue to provide the best service and entertainment to our customers. We have worked hard to make the customer experience even better, and are now looking forward to launching updated and improved products.
“The Enlabs team has shown fantastic energy and solidarity during the long period, and I want to thank them all for their efforts.”
