Ledyard Fights for Right to tax Slots

Attorneys for the Connecticut town of Ledyard argued last week before the state Supreme Court in the ongoing battle of whether it can collect property taxes on slot machines that WMS Gaming rents to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which operates Foxwoods casino.

The town argues that since the machines are not owned by the tribe that it can tax them. They are opposed by attorneys for WMS Gaming.

This legal battle has dragged on for more than ten years. The most recent appearance in court was over which side should pay the estimated millions of dollars in court fees.
