The Macau Health Bureau is calling for stricter oversight of the water lines at the Parisian Macao after detecting traces of the bacteria that causes Legionnaires disease.

The bureau has asked the operator, Sands China Ltd., to address the issue “in the shortest time frame possible,” to “continuously monitor the concentration of legionella bacteria in the water supply systems” and to “adopt strict prevention measures that can efficiently reduce the risk of legionella infection” among its customers and employees.

In April, the Macao was linked to three confirmed cases of Legionnaire’s disease. The latest samples were tested in October.

In a statement to GGRAsia, the operator said the Parisian Macao continues “to be in full operation” despite the positive test and is “confident” that all water supplies are “completely safe and pose no risk to guests or visitors to the property.”
