Former Singapore Tourism Board Chief Executive Lionel Yeo has joined ride-hailing company Grab as its new CEO. Yeo stepped down from the STB on May 31 after six years with the board. His position at Grab was affective as of September 17, reported the Straits Times.
A Grab representative told the Times that Yeo has enjoyed “an illustrious career spanning 22 years in the public sector.” Coupled with his board experience, the representative said, he “will add insight and value” to the company’s leadership.
In his new role, Yeo will work closely with Grab CEO Anthony Tan to lead and grow the organization.
During Yeo’s time at STB, Singapore secured several major sporting events including the BNP Paribas Women’s Tennis Association Finals, the Singapore Rugby Sevens and football’s International Champions Cup. He also led projects such as Singapore: Inside Out, described as “an international showcase of talents from multiple creative disciplines.”
“I’ve always been a keen observer of Grab and am immensely proud of a homegrown company’s achievements and contributions to Southeast Asia,” Yeo said. “Grab is at an inflection point as it transforms from an on-demand transport solution to a super app. I look forward to contributing as Grab embarks on its next phase of growth and creates more meaningful impact across Southeast Asia.”
The Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry named Keith Tan Kean Loong as STB CEO effective October 29.
