The parliament of Lithuania recently unanimously voted to adopt amendments to the Law on Gaming, including stricter control of gambling machines and increased supervision over gambling operators. Minister of Finance Vilius Sapoka said, “Adoption of the amendments will ensure more fair gaming operations, more effective money laundering prevention, transparent and effective accounting and control system.” The Gaming Control Authority under the Ministry of Finance will oversee the enhanced regulations.
The amendments will require gaming companies to connect all gaming machines into a new electronic control system that will give regulators better control over slot machine activities and data, leading to more effective gaming supervision, higher data security and accounting transparency. Also, the amendments will require that all gaming establishments install 24-hour digital video recording systems.
After a transitional period, gaming operators must connect to the electronic control system by November 1, 2021 and digital video recording systems must be installed by the end of 2019.
Similar gaming regulations are in effect in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Estonia and are being implemented in Latvia, the ministry said.
